    Overview

Level 1 and Level 2 DHIS2 Academies bring together DHIS2 practitioners from multiple countries within a region to learn key skills and share experiences. While there are many benefits to this approach, effectively building capacity at a national level or below also calls for training that is customized to a given country’s specific needs, goals, and DHIS2 database structure. This is where the DHIS2 In-Country Academy program comes in.

In-Country Academies are delivered by our network of HISP groups, using a training framework developed by the University of Oslo that is specifically tailored to meet the needs of a particular audience. These Academies are offered upon request, and are particularly focused on improving data use and data quality.

    Data Use

The Data Use In-Country Academy focuses on developing skills for transforming data into action. This can include administrative and managerial structures, such as developing routines for reviewing data to empower decision making, and capacity building of key skills through reviewing and interpreting specific local outputs to understand how they are used for routine program management. In addition, frameworks for sharing these interpretations for broader discussion are introduced. The goal of this training is to transform the use of DHIS2 information management systems from a simple repository for data collection and reporting, into a powerful tool for making data-driven decisions.

While the structure of this curriculum is based on guidelines and procedures developed by the core DHIS2 team at UiO, the specifics of each course are based on the local context, and will be adapted by your local HISP group to meet your specific needs.

    Data Quality

You can’t make good decisions based on bad data. This In-Country Academy teaches you to apply standardized tools, effective data quality techniques and statistical best practices to ensure that you can identify and resolve potential issues in your data. The goal of this In-Country Academy is to help countries improve the quality of their data and build capacity to maintain a high quality database as new data are added in the future.

Best practices and procedures for managing metadata, users and additional access control are some of the topics that can be discussed based on local needs. The goal of this academy is take the knowledge available in-country regarding how to customize a DHIS2 system and discuss different approaches to apply these skills appropriately over the lifespan of a DHIS2 implementation.
