DHIS2 has been officially recognized as a Global Good for Climate and Health by PATH Digital Square, joining a select group of only three software platforms that support integrated, climate-resilient health systems and are already implemented at national scale.

PATH is a global nonprofit dedicated to achieving health equity through innovation. Headquartered in Seattle, the organization collaborates with governments, communities, and public and private sector partners to develop and scale up solutions that improve health outcomes around the world. Through its Digital Square initiative, PATH coordinates a global network of donors and experts to support the development, adoption, and scale-up of open-source digital health tools—also known as digital public goods—with a focus on strengthening national health systems in low- and middle-income countries.

For several years, PATH has published the Global Goods Guidebook, a resource aimed at policymakers, procurement officials, health leaders, and technologists to help them make informed, impactful decisions on open-source digital tools for health programs. Through this new initiative, PATH has updated their Global Goods maturity model to include features, functionalities, and standards for climate and health.

This recognition of DHIS2 as a Global Good for Climate and Health follows a competitive global call for proposals and a rigorous peer review process. Submissions were assessed on their maturity in six categories, including global utility, community support, software maturity, equity and inclusive design, and support for climate-resilient health systems and low-carbon digital health systems. DHIS2 was selected based on its demonstrated global scale and recent advancements that enable integration of climate data with health information systems.

“As climate change impacts health systems, digital tools that integrate climate and health data are more vital than ever,” said Linda Taylor, Technical Program Manager at PATH. “Approved Global Goods and new innovations show growing commitment to building climate-resilient health systems.”

With this designation, DHIS2 joins a growing ecosystem of digital public goods that empower governments to better anticipate and respond to climate-related health risks. The platform’s modular, open-source architecture allows countries to customize and scale national health information systems—now with increasing capabilities to incorporate climate variables for early warning, surveillance, and decision-making.

This recognition reinforces DHIS2’s commitment to innovation in support of sustainable, data-driven health governance and builds on its position as the world’s most widely deployed health information system, used at scale in more than 75 countries.
