The July 2025 HISP Highlights post features the latest news, achievements, and updates from across our global HISP network.
From climate resilience and cross-sector data integration to education, agriculture, and mental health, the global HISP network continues to expand the impact of DHIS2. This month’s roundup showcases new partnerships and project launches in Ethiopia, Uganda, and São Tomé and PrÃncipe, alongside regional training programs across Asia and Africa. We also highlight key conference reflections, growing interoperability with digital public goods, and new toolkits developed in response to disease outbreaks. Implementation
Mpox Outbreak Management Toolkit
Representatives from the HISP Centre at the University of Oslo (HIP UiO) and the HISP Africa hub joined forces with the Africa CDC and the Incident Management Support Team in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, to design a toolkit to work with existing DHIS2 Tracker case-based implementations to support the ongoing Mpox outbreak management in African countries. HISP Ethiopia Supports Agriculture Data Project
The Ministry of Agriculture of Ethiopia is exploring the use of DHIS2 as part of its ongoing efforts to modernize and unify agricultural data management. In a July meeting hosted by the Ministry, HISP Ethiopia shared how DHIS2 is being used in the agriculture sector, and detailed its experiences with implementing DHIS2 data collection systems. More
Jamaica Launches DHIS2-Based Cancer Registry
HISP Rwanda and the Jamaica Ministry of Health and Wellness have launched the country’s first MoH-owned DHIS2 system—a fully customized Oncology Module for national cancer surveillance. The new platform replaces a legacy desktop system and enables real-time data entry, analysis, and reporting to support timely, data-driven cancer control. More
Education Data System Strengthening in Sierra Leone
HISP West and Central Africa (WCA), as part of the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX) initiative, has launched a major initiative to implement DHIS2 for education data management in Sierra Leone. To officially kick off the project, HISP WCA conducted a national workshop in Freetown, which included a DHIS2 orientation session for the national team, a technical session on DHIS2 interoperability, and a formal presentation to the Minister of Education. Mental Health Project Launch in Uganda
Uganda’s Ministry of Health has launched a new mental health data project with support from the Wellcome Trust and HISP Uganda, and in partnership with the African Population and Health Research Center. This one-year project will use DHIS2 to digitize outpatient mental health records from 18 regional hospitals, applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to convert static line-list data into rich, longitudinal patient records, to strengthen evidence-based decision making in mental health services. Saudigitus Working with São Tomé and PrÃncipe
Saudigitus is collaborating with the Health Information Systems Department of São Tomé and PrÃncipe to link DHIS2 with key systems like the civil registry, adding new features like vaccination certificates, and assessing how best to implement complete longitudinal patient care records. This work is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) of São Tomé and PrÃncipe, in partnership with Sistema de Informação para a Saúde. More
New DHIS2 Launch in Bhimber District, Azad Kashmir
HISP Pakistan supported the launch of a new DHIS2 implementation in District Bhimber, Azad Kashmir, a milestone for digital health transformation in the contested area. As part of the launch, supported by UNICEF, HISP Pakistan facilitated DHIS2 training for district-level health staff and engaged with the Director General for Health of the region. More

DHIS2-Ed Team at Stemtastic Adventures Africa
Members of the DHIS2-Ed team from HISP UiO, HISP Uganda and Saudigitus attended Stemtastic Adventures Africa—one of the continent’s largest STEM education symposiums. The team presented at the official launch of the Spix Foundation RESPECT platform, a digital public library of EdTech apps, and shared how the DHIS2-Ed education management information system is helping advance AUDA-NEPAD’s EdTech vision. Reflections on the DHIS2 Annual Conference
Jean Paul Hategekimana, the HISP Rwanda head of implementation and capacity building, shared his reflections from the DHIS2 2025 Annual Conference in a recent video interview. He spoke about how DHIS2 is transforming planning, monitoring, evaluation and decision making across sectors, and how HISP Rwanda helps to build stronger health systems with data. More

Partnership
Collaboration for DHIS2 and MOSIP Interoperability
The HISP Centre at University of Oslo (HISP UiO) and the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore are partnering to explore interoperability between DHIS2 and Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP)—two leading digital public goods used at national scale for health information and identity systems. Supported by Norad, this six-month project will investigate standards-based linkages that could help countries strengthen integrated service delivery and digital infrastructure. More
Dakar Meeting on National Malaria Data Repository
HISP West and Central Africa participated in a two-day meeting with the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office in Dakar, Senegal, to coordinate work with the National Malaria Data Repository (NMDR), which is integrated into DHIS2. Attendees shared concrete experiences and defined a common roadmap for member countries—including Guinea and Togo—that have chosen to integrate the NMDR into their national DHIS2 systems. More
One Health Stakeholders Meeting in Lilongwe
HISP University of Malawi participated in a One Health stakeholders meeting, hosted by Malawi’s Public Health Institute with collaboration from the Department of Animal Health and Livestock Development and the Environmental Affairs Department. The HISP team showcased the DHIS2 Climate App, and a new climate data portal, emphasizing data interoperability and climate-informed decision making across sectors. More

Vaccine Project Training in Kyrgyzstan
HISP UiO‘s DHIS2 Regional Coordinator Yury Rogachev supported the International Pediatric Association’s Vaccines to Vaccination Project training, hosted by the Union of Children’s Doctors of Kyrgyz Republic. With participants from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia, and Moldova, the workshop included deep dives into immunization strategies. More
Training for Department of Health Trainers in Pakistan
HISP Pakistan conducted a five-day training of trainers on health management information system (HMIS) for the Department of Health in Azad Jammu & Kashmir, with support from UNICEF. The training focused on metadata configuration, data analysis, dashboard development, and data quality assurance to strengthen the region’s HMIS and support evidence-based decision-making. More
Training for National Pool of Trainers in Benin
HISP West and Central Africa conducted training in Cotonou, Benin, for a pool of 20 national trainers who will be responsible for supporting DHIS2 implementations at the operational level. Along with partners from Benin’s Expanded Programme on Immunization office, the Direction des Systèmes d’Information, Agence de Médecine Préventive, UNICEF and World Health Organization, HISP WCA trained participants on advanced DHIS2 features for vaccination data management, laying the groundwork for national rollout by October 2025. Advanced DHIS2 Training in Burkina Faso
HISP West and Central Africa provided technical support to partner organization ThinkWell to conduct an intensive ten-day training on DHIS2 administration and maintenance for Ministry of Health managers in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, in July. Participants learned advanced DHIS2 configuration, analysis, visualization, platform administration, and more. More
Regional Training for Nutrition Project in the Philippines
HISP India and HISP Vietnam, as part of the HISP Asia hub, supported a regional technical training in the Philippines for the DHIS2-based Philippine Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Project. Using a “train the trainer” model, the HISP team coordinated a five-day hands-on course for four separate cohorts. More
