HISP Highlights November 2025
The November 2025 HISP Highlights post features the latest news, achievements, and updates from across our global HISP network.
From supply chains and surveillance to climate health and digital public goods, November showcased the breadth of HISP’s impact. Highlights include a joint DHIS2–mSupply Academy in Kigali with participants from 15+ countries; Tracker and eIR trainings in Ethiopia and Somaliland; new partnerships for health intelligence centers in West Africa; and our addition to the World Economic Forum CHAMPS network. On implementation, teams supported a polio campaign in Chad, launched a national malaria data repository effort in Togo, ran a DHIS2 maturity assessment for South Sudan, strengthened supply chains in Gabon, and released a Dashboard Usage Metrics app—alongside engagements at COP30, the DPGA meeting, the Global DPI Summit, and regional climate–health forums.

Training
End-to-End Supply Chain Management with DHIS2 and mSupply
The DHIS2 Logistics team joined HISP Rwanda and The mSupply Foundation in Kigali to co-host the End-to-End Supply Chain Management with DHIS2 and mSupply Academy, in November. Participants and facilitators from 15 countries came together for a week of hands-on learning, experience sharing, and collaboration across two complementary open-source systems. More
Tracker Configuration Academy in Addis
HISP Ethiopia hosted a DHIS2 Tracker Configuration Academy in collaboration with HISP Africa and HISP UiO during November, bringing together participants from Uganda, Namibia, Egypt, Somalia, and Ethiopia for an intensive, collaborative, and hands-on Academy focused on configuration of DHIS2 Tracker—covering design, configuration, implementation considerations, and best practices. Electronic Immunization Registry Training in Somaliland
HISP Tanzania facilitated the Electronic Immunization Registry (eIR) Training of Trainers workshop in Hargeisa, Somaliland, alongside the World Health Organization, the project’s implementation partner, and the Somaliland Ministry of Health’s Extended Program for Immunization (EPI), the system owners. The focus of the workshop was to strengthen the use of DHIS2 for data capture, analysis, and informed decision making. More
DHIS2 Android Training in Burundi
HISP West and Central Africa joined a team from the Directorate of the National Health Information System, with partners from Enabel Burundi and UGADS for a five-day training to on the DHIS2 Android app. During the training, 14 executives learned the ins and outs of the mobile application, including how to configure the mobile architecture of an entire country, transform complex forms into simple interfaces for health workers, and analyze data as soon as it is synchronized. Free Training Through Data.org
Earlier this month, HISP UiO announced new training courses that are available at no cost through data.org. The courses are designed to strengthen key skills for social impact organizations, academic and research institutions, and governments—from ethical AI to responsible data management and climate-health storytelling (plus an advanced AI course in Spanish). More

Partnership
New Partnership to Support Health Intelligence Centers
Colleagues from HISP UiO and HISP West and Central Africa joined Sand Technologies in Kigali for a productive workshop focused on establishing a new partnership to support the development of health intelligence centers across West Africa. We’re excited to collaborate with Sand Technologies on this effort to help countries unlock the full potential of the data already available in their DHIS2 instances and strengthen data-driven decision making at all levels of the health system. World Economic Forum Climate & Health Action Map
HISP UiO joins the World Economic Forum’s Climate and Health Action Map for Stakeholders (CHAMPS), a global initiative connecting organizations working within climate change and public health. Through CHAMPS, we join a growing network of countries and partners collaborating to strengthen climate-resilient, data-driven health systems. As the organization behind DHIS2, HISP UiO and the broader HISP network of collaborating partners contribute open-source digital tools that help governments analyze climate-sensitive health risks, forecast disease patterns, and plan more equitable, sustainable responses. More

Implementation
Polio Campaign in Chad
HISP Rwanda has deployed a DHIS2 solution allowing daily monitoring of vaccinated children, vaccine management, surveillance of events following vaccination and community communication, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and Prevention of Chad and the Expanded Programme on Immunization for a national polio vaccination campaign, organized from October 31 to November 2 in Mandelia (Chari-Baguirmi). National Malaria Data Repository Launch in Togo
HISP WCA shared its experience in using DHIS2 and health data management, and presented the WHO Standard Module for Strengthening Integrated Electronic Disease Surveillance (e-IDSR) during a technical launch and preparation workshop in Kpalimé, organized by Togo’s National Malaria Control Program, with the support of WHO/AFRO and in collaboration with the DSNISI. The overall objective was to strengthen the national malaria data management system through the operationalization of the repository. More
DHIS2 Maturity Assessment for South Sudan
HISP Tanzania conducted a virtual DHIS2 maturity assessment and capacity-building needs assessment for the South Sudan Ministry of Health, 24-28 November. The assessment reviews key domains such as leadership, governance, system security, metadata quality, reporting practices, infrastructure, and end user capacity. Using structured tools and evidence directly from the national DHIS2 instance, the exercise is supported by inputs from MoH teams and partners including World Health Organization and Malaria Consortium. Supply Chain Support in Gabon
HISP Rwanda has worked in collaboration with Gabon’s Directorate of the Essential Services Chain, the World Health Organization, and other partners to improve the supply chain and build local capacity through three major activities, including configuring logistics indicators and creating a custom DHIS2 dashboard, providing training for logistics managers, and hosting DHIS2 server training. More
DHIS2 Dashboard Usage Metrics App
HISP Rwanda has created and released a new DHIS2 Dashboard Usage Metrics App on the DHIS2 App Hub. It shows exactly how your dashboards are being used, with clear insights into who is engaging, how often dashboards are used, what’s delivering value, and where to focus improvements. More

Events
COP30 in Brazil
Our colleague Leticia Robles from HISP UiO was on the ground in Belém, Brazil, for COP30 where she shared insights about DHIS2 for Climate & Health. Relevant discussions during the event included the “Spotlight on accelerating climate and health action” panel, as well as the newly launched Belém Health Action Plan, which marks an important milestone for global climate adaptation in the health sector. Digital Public Goods Alliance Annual Members Meeting
Two of our colleagues from HISP UiO took part in the three-day Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA) Annual Members Meeting, held 24–26 November in Brazil. The meeting opened with insightful remarks from Liv Marte Nordhaug, the DPGA CEO, alongside key Brazilian government leaders, highlighting how digital public goods strengthen digital sovereignty and play a critical role in building resilient, inclusive digital systems for the future. Global DPI Summit
HISP UiO was represented at the Global DPI Summit 2025 in Cape Town earlier this month, where our colleagues Scott Russpatrick and Pamod Amarakoon hosted a session on “Presentation of DHIS2 in the Context of GovStack” at the GIZ booth. During the conference, Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health also participated in a panel discussion on “Achieving Health Sector Goals with DPIs and Standards: From Blueprint to Implementation,” sharing that Ethiopia now has more than 1 billion records in its national DHIS2 system. Embedded Lab Meeting in Uganda
HISP Uganda and the DHIS2 Education team participated in the Innovations for Poverty Action Embedded Lab Meeting on 27-28 November in Uganda. The meeting brought together partners to reflect, share knowledge, and strengthen policy learning across ongoing research and innovations within the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES). More
Climate Services for Health Collaborative Meeting
HISP Uganda participated in the inaugural Climate Services for Health Collaborative Meeting, hosted by Uganda’s Ministry of Health and the Department of Meteorological Services. The initiative aims to establish a functional framework that strengthens the routine use of climate knowledge in health decision-making, aligned with the Health National Adaptation Plan and building on the ongoing DHIS2 Climate Pilot Project. Data Validation Workshop in Ethiopia
HISP Ethiopia, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health Ethiopia, conducted a validation workshop for the DHIS2 Maturity Assessment on November 21–22. The workshop opened with a brief presentation from HISP UiO, highlighting the global perspectives and its importance for strategic planning. More
