The Chilean Ministry of Health and the University of Oslo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim of strengthening health data management.
The Chilean Ministry of Health and the University of Oslo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim of improving health data management. This agreement seeks to support the existing implementation of DHIS2 in the Epidemiology department of the Ministry of Health, and to share knowledge and innovation. The ministry already has a national implementation covering Childhood Cancer, drug distribution, early warning of extreme temperatures, and event surveillance.
Training and Continuous Improvement
One of the main focuses of the MOU is capacity building and training to maximize the use of the DHIS2 platform. The Chilean Ministry of Health (MINSAL) will benefit through the transfer of knowledge and the continuous improvement of the platform’s functionalities and usability, as well as through the dissemination of knowledge and experiences in the region. “Chile’s Ministry of Health is leading in the region, and together with Norway, demonstrating how the use of Digital Public Goods for epidemiology is viable also in high-income countries,” says Enzo Rossi, DHIS2 coordinator for Latin America at the HISP Centre.
Next Steps
This MOU establishes a framework for continued cooperation and the development of innovative solutions in the field of healthcare, benefiting both parties and promoting effective collaboration based on principles of equality and mutual benefit. In the future, Chile expects to move its entire epidemiological surveillance system to DHIS2, to obtain real-time information on the national situation and thus facilitate the tasks of decision-makers, optimizing public health response and management.
