About DHIS2 & HISP
DHIS2 is a free, open-source, web-based platform for collecting, managing, analyzing, and sharing data. Today, DHIS2 is the world’s largest health management information system (HMIS) platform, used by Ministries of Health in more than 75 low- and middle-income countries as the government-wide system of record for health data, covering a population of approximately 3.2 billion people.
DHIS2 is also increasingly used beyond health. Its flexible and customizable design makes it adaptable across sectors, including education, logistics, and climate. When including known deployments by governments across these and other sectors, as well as by NGOs, IGOs, and and other organizations, DHIS2 is actively used in more than 130 countries worldwide.
Recognized by the Digital Public Goods Alliance as a certified digital public good (DPG), DHIS2 is part of a global movement to promote open, accessible, and sustainable digital solutions that strengthen public systems and are grounded in local ownership and capacity.
DHIS2 software development is led by the HISP Centre at the University of Oslo (UiO) in collaboration with the HISP network of 23 partner groups across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas, which provide daily, on-the-ground support to governments and local implementers and ensure that DHIS2 software development is informed by local needs.
