DHIS2 News: HISP Centre and Norwegian Red Cross sign collaboration agreement
The HISP Centre at the University of Oslo and the Norwegian Red Cross have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on capacity building, technical support, and sharing innovative practices to improve health data systems.
This week, the HISP Centre at the University of Oslo (UiO) and the Norwegian Red Cross (NoRC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which outlines their shared support of the global HISP movement, promoting the use of DHIS2 as a global public good, and exchanging ideas and best practices. The objectives of this partnership are to enhance NoRC’s health information systems capacity development efforts in Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies, to support NoRC counterparts during DHIS2 use case planning and conceptualization, and to provide technical support for NoRC implementation of DHIS2 systems in collaboration with HISP partners around the world.Â
Under this Memorandum of Understanding, both organizations will collaborate on capacity building, technical support, and the sharing of innovative practices to improve health data systems in humanitarian contexts. “By joining forces with the Norwegian Red Cross, we are reinforcing our commitment to providing DHIS2 as a global public good, supporting digital health transformation efforts in countries around the world,” said Professor Kristin Braa, director of the HISP Center at UiO. “This partnership will enhance the capacity of health systems, and strengthen collaboration across the HISP network.”
The agreement reflects a shared commitment to advancing sustainable health information systems, promoting local ownership, and fostering long-term resilience in health infrastructure. Key aspects of the partnership include technical and strategic support for NoRC’s health information initiatives, collaborative development of DHIS2 use cases specific to humanitarian needs, and coordination with regional HISP hubs and local groups to align DHIS2 implementation at all levels.
DHIS2 is an open source, web-based platform most commonly used as a health management information system (HMIS).
