Overview: Localization & Translation of DHIS2
Localization of DHIS2 involves the adaptation of the application to a specific location. When implementing DHIS2 in a given country, both translation and localization may be required. User interface elements, messages, layout, date and time formats, and currency are some aspects of localization to be considered. If the system will be used in a language other than English, both the user interface itself and metadata content which is contained in the database must be translated.
The DHIS2 core team and HISP network collaborate to make DHIS2 available in a set of core languages — currently English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Vietnamese, Chinese and Norwegian. Additional languages are available on request, and DHIS2 community members are encouraged to contribute to our translation projects. On this page, you can find an overview of some of the resources available for localization and translation of DHIS2.
Contribute to and use DHIS2 translations
HISP UiO uses Transifex as a platform for DHIS2 translation, which helps to keep translations of the core DHIS2 software up to date. Members of the DHIS2 community are welcome to use Transifex to request the translation of DHIS2 into new languages and to contribute to ongoing translation projects. Find out how you can get started as a translator in the DHIS2 documentation.
You can find all the DHIS2 translated strings from Transifex the next morning in the nightly builds of DHIS2 and have them available for your instance of DHIS2 from the next Patch Release in the DHIS2 software release cycle.
Translated strings of the DHIS2 documentation are available the next morning on the DHIS2 Documentation Portal.
DHIS2 translation status
Use the interactive diagram below to view the current translation status for core DHIS2 applications. Use the selector switch at the top of the diagram to view the overall translation status for all languages, or to see a list of core application translation status by a specific language and version.
Clicking on a link in the “Languages overview” tab of the diagram will take you to detailed view for that language in the “Coverage per language,” where you can see the translation status for that language for each DHIS2 core component and application (use the dropdown to select between DHIS2 versions). Click on one of the items there to open the project on Transifex, where you can contribute to the translation yourself!
