Our global HISP network has closed out 2024 with some big new accomplishments and partnerships! Here are some of the most important announcements and updates from the last month.

Implementation

DHIS2 Officially Launched in Gabon
Interim prime minister Raymond Ndong Sima presided over a December ceremony marking DHIS2’s use at national scale. In partnership with World Health Organization (WHO) Gabon, The Global Fund, and Centre de Recherches Médicales de Lambaréné – Cermel, and technical support from HISP Rwanda for system design and training, Gabon proudly joins the DHIS2 network as the final nation in the region to adopt the platform for health information management. More

HIV Tracker Launched in Djibouti
In December, senior officials from Djibouti’s Ministry of Health marked the official launch of the country’s DHIS2-based HIV Tracker, developed and implemented by HISP Rwanda in collaboration with DIS and the Ministry’s HIV/TB Programme. This tracker fundamentally changes data management and strengthens patient tracking and interventions in the country. More 

WHO Highlights DHIS2-Based System in Timor-Leste
The World Health Organization has shared highlights from the implementation of Timor-Leste’s Integrated Case-Based Surveillance system. This DHIS2-based platform, implemented by HISP India in collaboration with WHO Timor-Leste and endorsed by the country’s Ministry of Health, enables efficient, real-time, case-based surveillance and strengthens healthcare delivery. More

Maldives Launches Digital Health Record Portal
The Maldives Ministry of Health has launched a public portal for citizens to access their personal health records. The DHIS2-based portal, designed by HISP Sri Lanka through a consultancy with the World Health Organization, enables access to children’s medical records in this first phase of the project, and will be expanded in the future to include health records for all citizens. More

Partnership

Kick-Off Workshop for DHIS2 Implementation Research
HISP Ethiopia
organized a stakeholders’ workshop in Addis Ababa, Nov. 30, 2024, to mark the beginning of an action research initiative aimed at assessing the implementation of DHIS2 in health facilities under Bole Sub-City. This research seeks to identify actionable interventions to enhance the system’s utilization and transform these facilities into demonstration sites for DHIS2 and health information systems at large. More

Syria Vaccination Technical Mission
HISP MENA participated in four days of technical meetings with the Syria Immunization Group, along with representatives from the World Health Organization and UNICEF, in Gaziantep, Turkey 25-28 Nov., 2024. The team from HISP MENA discussed the needs of the Syria Immunization Group, as related to the DHIS2 platform, including expanding its use of both individual and aggregate data, as well as data analysis and platform maturity. Collaboration with Central African Republic
In December, HISP Rwanda signed a memorandum of understanding for collaboration with with Ministry of Health and Population of the Central African Republic (CAR), which outlines shared goals for strengthening the country’s health systems. HISP Rwanda Coordinator Venuste Nsanzumuhire and CAR Minister of Health and Population Dr. Pierre Somse signed the document and the two organizations will work together to promote sustainable health data management and improve monitoring and evaluation within the CAR.   • HMIS Annual Meeting—HISP Tanzania participated in the HMIS Annual Meeting in Morogoro. More
  • Strengthening Local Health Systems Consortium—HISP Uganda celebrates USAID/Uganda SLHS Award as consortium member. More

Global Digital Health Forum
Teammates Geir Kjetil Sandve and Omiel Patrick Okecho from the HISP Center at UiO presented a solution demo and a lightning talk session at this year’s Global Digital Health Forum in Nairobi, sharing how DHIS2 is being used to integrate health and climate data, and exploring the HISP approach to developing machine learning solutions. More

IIEP-UNESCO Strategic Debate
Knut Staring, from the HISP Centre at UiO, participated in the IIEP-UNESCO Strategic Debate on “Connecting Data Points to Improve Education Delivery,” on 12 Dec., alongside representatives from IIEP-UNESCO, the Eswatini Ministry of Education and Training, the Honduras Ministry of Education, and more. More

GPE KIX Symposium
Terje Aksel Sanner, from the HISP Centre at UiO, presented “Reflections on data use innovations to empower the middle tier in education,” during the fifth annual GPE KIX Symposium in December, sharing results from GPE KIX-funded research in Togo, the Gambia, Uganda. More
