Web-based data entry with customizable forms and offline support

DHIS2 offers a flexible suite of tools for capturing all kinds of data on the web. With the Data Entry app, you can enter aggregated data, such as daily, weekly and monthly reports, using easy-to-navigate and customizable forms. The Data Entry app also includes configurable validation tools to support data quality, and can be configured for data review and approval steps where required. With the Capture app, you can collect and update data at the individual level, either for discrete or anonymous records (through Event programs) or longitudinal records for individual people or other entities that you want to monitor over time. The Capture app supports dynamic form displays and auto-calculated fields to make data entry easier for lengthy or detailed records.

You can access these DHIS2 data entry tools through its web-based interface from any computer, and continue working even if internet connectivity cuts out–data will be stored locally in your browser and will sync with the online server as soon as connectivity is restored.

Enter data anywhere–online or offline–with the DHIS2 mobile app

You can expand the reach of DHIS2 through the DHIS2 Android Capture app, which lets you register cases, events and personal information, track individuals, conduct surveys and capture aggregate data, all through a mobile phone. The app offers full data entry functionality on Android mobile devices, and is designed to function seamlessly as a complement to web-based DHIS2 systems. It supports a variety of data entry modes, including pictorial data entry, scanning of barcodes and QR codes, signature and photo capture, and collection of location data using your device’s GPS. It also includes instant analysis of data collected in the device, with built-in support for specific kinds of analysis like the WHO growth monitoring chart. You can even customize your DHIS2 data entry forms specifically for the Android app, ensuring the best user experience for mobile data collection.

The DHIS2 Android Capture app functions in both online and offline mode, meaning that data and metadata are automatically synchronized whenever there is internet access. This makes it an effective mobile data entry solution for locations where internet connectivity is limited, helping you reach the last mile.

For areas where there is no internet access at all, or availability of smartphones or tablets is limited, DHIS2 can also be configured for limited data entry by SMS, allowing you to send data to the server from any phone capable of sending a text message.

Mobile support for QR codes, image capture, location data, and more

The DHIS2 Android Capture app offers a number of additional features that supplement manual data entry on mobile devices. For example, you can use the camera on your mobile device to scan QR codes or bar codes to immediately access and update unique data records. DHIS2 can also collect and store images and signatures, and you can enter geographic coordinates manually or automatically using your mobile device’s GPS. When used with Event or Tracker programs for individual data, these features can help improve the speed and accuracy of data collection, and add additional granularity to your records.

Import data in bulk or pull in data automatically from other sources

When you have a lot of data that you need to enter into DHIS2 at once, you don’t need to enter it all by hand. The DHIS2 Import/Export app allows you to easily import aggregate and individual-level data directly into DHIS2 using common formats like JSON and CSV.

If you have another source of data that is external to DHIS2 that will be updated over time, making manual export and import a chore, you can also use the open DHIS2 API and integration tools to set up automatic data import into DHIS2. This allows you to combine data from multiple sources on one platform, facilitating combined analysis.

Add additional geospatial datasets to get data on population, climate, and more

There are a number of open datasets that can supplement that data you collect in DHIS2, helping add nuance to your analyses. You can use the Import/Export app to import geospatial data through the Google Earth Engine, including high-resolution population data from WorldPop.

The DHIS2 Climate app makes it easy to import climate, weather, and environmental data into DHIS2, where it is automatically harmonized with your organization units. This supports climate & health programs that analyze and respond to climate-sensitive health risks.
