    Our Mission

HISP’s mission is to support countries and regions to strengthen their information systems and information architecture in a sustainable way to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the health sector and beyond. We pursue this goal through DHIS2 platform development, capacity building, action research, local ownership, and innovation sharing in the global community.

In pursuing this mission, we are guided by shared HISP values and principles, which are codified in a memorandum of understanding between all groups in the HISP network.

    Our Values

HISP’s shared values reflect our mission, and help guide our work and relationships with each other, our partners, and our clients:

    • Collaboration within the HISP network and with our partners
    • Sharing of knowledge, solutions, and resources
    • Open-source to enable innovation and reuse
    • Participatory design centered on local stakeholder needs
    • Local ownership of information systems and data
    • Reliable long-term partnerships
    • Transparency and accountability in all areas of our work
    • Respect and professionalism toward all
    • HISP Network and Community over individual gains

    Our Principles

HISP’s principles help us to put our shared values into action through commitment to common approaches and standards:

    • Provide information system implementation support to governments, development partners, international bodies and others to support collaborative digital transformation processes based on free and open source software.
    • Support country ownership of information systems, engaging users in participatory design and development processes, building resilience and capacity in countries for promoting long-term sustainable implementations.
    • Support the goal of strong and independent DHIS2 core teams in governments through guidance on capacity strengthening plans and long-term commitment to skills development and knowledge transfer.
    • Commit to a collaborative approach to share country experiences, best practices, innovations and resources across the HISP network, across countries and the broader DHIS2 community e.g. through hosting of regional DHIS2 Academies and conferences.
    • Promote sharing of knowledge, experience, and skills between HISP groups to support uniform approaches and standards across the HISP network e.g. in technical areas, project management, administration, etc.
    • Promote transparency of competencies in the HISP groups, develop and implement strategies to build mutually beneficial capacities within the HISP groups in a region, and utilize the best available competence across groups to provide quality implementation services.
    • Commit to research-based approaches, collaborate on research and publications, and build partnerships with local academic institutions.
    • Leverage and collaborate on innovations from the HISP network and adapt them to local contexts.
    • Work collaboratively with other HISP groups rather than competing for the same opportunities; collaborate on funding opportunities, support joint proposals, and work jointly to support countries.
    • Manage funds in a coordinated manner, maximizing synergies and reducing duplication of effort.
    • Respect and abide by the HISP Network Code of Conduct
