HISP Highlights April 2026
The April 2026 HISP Highlights post features the latest news, achievements, and updates from across our global HISP network.
April was a month of milestones across the HISP network, with teams delivering hands-on training, advancing digital health infrastructure, and strengthening partnerships from East Africa to the Pacific. Whether in the field, at ministry tables, or in workshop halls, HISP groups were translating data into action and building the systems that communities depend on.
This month’s highlights include a harmonization workshop in Ethiopia paving the way for digitalized supportive supervision tools; JICA representatives visiting Oslo to explore DHIS2 for Japan’s maternal and child health initiative; the official launch of Rwanda’s Karame school attendance app; and Uganda’s National Development Plan Monitoring and Evaluation system going live, inaugurated by President Museveni himself.

Training

Integrated Supportive Supervision Tools Workshop
HISP Ethiopia participated in an RH/FP/AYH Integrated Supportive Supervision Tool Harmonization and Validation Workshop in Bishoftu, April 7-9. This workshop marked a major milestone, validating the supervision tool to pave the way for its digitalization with DHIS2. This well enable more efficient supportive supervision, improved data use, and stronger overall program performance. More
New Video Tutorial by HISP Rwanda
HISP Rwanda has released a new video tutorial showcasing the DHIS2 Dashboard Usage Metrics App, which helps organizations gain visibility into how dashboards are being used within DHIS2. This tutorial demonstrates how to track who is using your dashboards, understand how often dashboards are accessed, improve dashboard design and performance, and more. More
DHIS2-Ed Training in Uganda
HISP Uganda collaborated with the Ministry of Education and Sports Uganda to host a two-day intensive training for district officials and head teachers on streamlining data management processes using the DHIS2 for Education platform. The training provided an opportunity for district education leaders and head teachers to exchange localized solutions and insights and supported participants in generating School Report Cards (SRC) to provide transparent, actionable data for their communities. Mental Health Data Bootcamp
HISP Uganda had an intensive two-day bootcamp focused harnessing DHIS2 to transform how mental health data is captured and utilized for evidence-based decision-making in Uganda, a pivotal step toward building the country’s national mental health data infrastructure. The bootcamp aimed to strengthen and consolidate the 2022–2024 dataset with advanced hashing algorithms and linkage logic to ensure seamless patient tracking. More
HISP West and Central Africa (WCA) organized a capacity-building workshop for administrative and financial staff for an application developed by HISP WCA on the DHIS2 platform. Through interactive demonstrations and hands-on exercises, participants were trained to use the app to ensure reliable, transparent and timely operations, in preparation for the 2026 mosquito net distribution campaign. HISP WCA and HISP Mali organized a French-language DHIS2 Data Quality Academy April 20-24 in Dakar. This event brought together 33 participants from 12 countries, illustrating the growing importance of quality data in health systems and its central role for countries and their technical and financial partners. Participants explored DHIS2’s new features for close data tracking, including identification of atypical values and continuous improvement of data quality. More
HISP Ethiopia delivered a targeted training on April 6–7 for Maternal & Child Health clerks at Jimma Higher 2 Health Center to enhance their capacity in using the DHIS2-based Antenatal Care (ANC) Registry Tracker. This hands-on session equipped participants with the skills to record and manage ANC interactions with pregnant women, schedule and track upcoming appointments, and more. More

JICA Visits HISP UiO
Representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited the HISP Centre at University of Oslo (HISP UiO) for a three-day technical workshop exploring how DHIS2 can support Japan’s Digital Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Handbook initiative. Over three days, the teams dove into the technical requirements for using DHIS2 Tracker to support antenatal care, postnatal care, delivery, immunization, growth monitoring, and nutrition programs—as well as Android customization, data integration with external health records systems, and long-term collaborative pathways. Climate & Health Project in Comoros
From 2 to 3 April, the Directorate of Health Information and Statistics of the Ministry of Health of the Union of the Comoros, in collaboration with experts from HISP Rwanda conducted a series of institutional meetings with several key national actors, including the Directorate General of Environment and Forests, the Directorate of Disease Control, the National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology, and the National Malaria Control Program. This activity is part of the DHIS2 Climate & Health project, technically implemented by HISP Rwanda, with funding from the World Bank‘s COMPASS program, through the Ministry of Health. More
HISP WCA Director of Implementation, Jerry Aziawa and HISP UiO colleagues Pamod Amarakoon and Kirti Thakur met in Togo as part of the Strengthening of Education Management Information System (SIGE) project funded by KIX/GPE consortium. Following this meeting, the delegation visited the Ministry of National Education, and met the Permanent Technical Secretary, Pr. Sena Yawo AKAKPO-NUMADO and other representatives to discuss data collection practices used before the introduction of the DHIS2 system and the significant progress observed since its integration into the KIX project. Implementation

Education Study Handover in Eswatini
HISP Uganda officially handed over the printed Labour Market Feasibility Study (2025–2035) to the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Training of Eswatini, in the presence of African Development Bank representatives and witnessed by the project coordinator. This milestone marks the successful conclusion of an important task delivered by HISP Uganda, and the report was reviewed and approved by the Technical Working Group, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the African Development Bank. Tanzania Proxy Indicators and Proxy Dashboard
HISP Tanzania has supported Tanzania’s Ministry of Health by introducing Proxy Indicators and the Proxy Dashboard to support immediate decision making in areas with structured monthly reporting. The team introduced a set of high-value indicators to reflect the operational status of hospitals, representing patient experiences, service demand, and system pressures across facilities; and regional, tertiary, and specialized hospitals were designated as sentinel sites, providing a reliable snapshot of the broader health system. Users now submit 24-hour data into DHIS2, which is transformed into visual insights on the DHIS2-based Proxy Dashboard and automatically shared as structured daily PDF reports via WhatsApp to key stakeholders. HISP Rwanda Launches School App
HISP Rwanda celebrated the official launch of its Karame app, an official mobile application developed for the Rwanda Ministry of Education, which is designed to digitally transform how schools track, manage, and report student attendance. Karame supports real-time student attendance tracking, secure data sync with the national education server, and offline functionality, and was developed in coordination with the Ministry of Education Rwanda, Save the Children, Waliku, and HISP Mozambique (Saudigitus). Electronic Medical Records Project in ChadÂ
On April 15, Chad’s Ministry of Public Health and Prevention took a major step forward in the modernization of its health system, during a strategic meeting dedicated to the digitalization and transformation of patients’ medical records. HISP Rwanda will provide technical support for the project, leading the design and demonstration of a patient-centric EMR system. More
Health Partner Management System in Rwanda
HISP Rwanda has provided technical support to the Ministry of Health of Rwanda to develop and implement a digital solution called the Health Partner Management (HPM) system, which was designed to automate and streamline key processes, including the submission, review, and approval of Memorandum of Understanding applications as well as project planning and activity monitoring and reporting. This initiative marks an important step toward modernizing how health partnerships are managed, ensuring faster approvals, better project monitoring, and greater impact across the health sector. More

National Performance Review Conference 2026 in Uganda
HISP Uganda joined national leaders and development partners at the Munyonyo Conference Centre for the National Performance Review Conference 2026. The event served as a critical forum for discussing the future of Uganda’s socio-economic transformation. The three-day conference culminated in the official launch of the DHIS2-based National Development Plan Monitoring and Evaluation system by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, represented by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja. More
One Health Event in Comoros
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Comoros, through the Directorate of Health Information and Statistics (DISS), organized a three-day national retreat dedicated to the identification and prioritization of Climate & Health indicators, with a view to their integration into the national health information system SNIS/DHIS2. HISP Rwanda, as a technical partner, has actively contributed to this initiative, financed by the World Bank through the COMPASS project. More
