Neotree & DHIS2
Neotree is a digital clinical decision support platform for neonatal care in low-resource settings. Designed to complement DHIS2, it captures structured newborn health data at the point of care – with a roadmap to feed that data into national health information systems and support facility-level data-driven care.

About Neotree
Neotree is a low-cost open-source digital clinical platform designed to support healthcare professionals delivering newborn care in low-resource settings. Currently operational within sub-Saharan Africa, Neotree has been used to improve the care of over 60,000 babies. It is built to function across the full facility spectrum – from primary health centres to tertiary hospitals — and in low-connectivity environments. Neotree guides clinicians through structured admission triage, examination, and discharge workflows, combining decision support with longitudinal patient data capture.
Neotree is a Strategic DHIS2 Technology Partner.
DHIS2 use case
Neotree addresses a critical gap in routine health data: high-quality newborn data and outcomes, often poorly captured in national HMIS. Neotree’s structured point-of-care data collection produces high-quality neonatal datasets well-suited to integration with DHIS2. DHIS2 integration would benefit both health systems and clinicians — enabling national and facility-level reporting without additional data entry burden, while also giving clinical teams immediate access to their own neonatal data for review and data-driven intervention. Full integration is a key goal on our development roadmap. Our work developing neonatal modules within national EMRs in Zimbabwe and Malawi is being built with DHIS2 integration in mind, and early trials pushing Neotree data into DHIS2 aggregate datasets are underway in Malawi.
Real-world example
- In Zimbabwe and Malawi, Neotree is improving neonatal clinical care and generating structured neonatal data – covering admissions, diagnoses, and outcomes — across 18 facilities ranging from primary care facilities to national referral hospitals.
- Our national EMR neonatal module development in both countries is designed with DHIS2 integration as part of the architecture.
- Early trials of pushing Neotree data into DHIS2 aggregate datasets are underway in Malawi.
